Ocean Spray Holiday 2022

When Ocean Spray asked its AOR Orchard Creative to make disruptive work to remind people of the unique role of the brand at the holidays, we were vibrating with excitement.

We started by thinking about the cranberry’s essential qualities, it’s tart and bracing. It leaves a mark on the tablecloth. What if the cranberry was the catalyst for transforming a bland holiday into something interesting?

So that led us to the most iconic version of the cranberry—the jellied cranberry logs that we’ve all seen on the holiday table at grandmas. The jelly is one of the weirdest foodstuffs in America. We felt it was our duty honor this weirdness.

Director Jeff Low made it extra insane.

And Mack Goudy Jr from the band Detroit Grand Pubahs (“Sandwiches") created a custom track that made our main character sing.

In addition to the films and the custom track, we created wild postings in NYC and a “Jelly Yule Log” video that harkens back to the fireplace videos of yore.

The campaign won a One Show Gold Pencil, a Silver Lion at Cannes, a British Arrow and several other awards. It had over 4.5 billion impressions and brand mentions leapt up 77% YOY.

And as a native Nebraskan who has always been in charge of the cran at the party—I felt that helping bring this campaign into the world was truly my destiny.

We decided that to make jelly wiggling truly iconic at holiday time, we should make a TEN HOUR pre-roll ala the fireplace yule log, to create instant yuletide ambience.

We created a tiktok duet so that people could dance with the jelly, and it got nearly 15M views before the holiday season was even in full swing.
